How to Use Color-Correcting Concealer
Most of us reach for a regular concealer to mask imperfections — but sometimes it's just not enough. Acne, redness, dark under-eye circles... that's where color correctors come in, canceling out discoloration that ordinary concealer can't handle on its own.
What each color does
Many of us own just one corrector — a shade lighter than our skin for brightening under-eye circles — or a second one for blemishes. But color correctors go further: each color has a specific job. You can apply them either after your primer and before foundation, or after foundation and before your standard concealer or powder.
Green corrector – neutralizes redness and spider veins around your nose and cheeks.
Yellow corrector – covers bruises, veins, and other purple or blue imperfections.
Nude corrector – evens your skin tone and covers pigment spots and small scars.
Highlighter – brightens, adds glow, and gives your skin a fresh look.
The most common mistake: forgetting to set it
Whenever you use a color corrector — on imperfections or dark circles — set it with powder right after applying. Here's the order that works:
First, apply a primer,
then put on your foundation,
and then apply the corrector.
Finally, set everything with a powder — ideally a transparent one.
You can easily layer a classic or blush powder over the transparent one. If you cover imperfections before applying foundation, we still recommend a dusting of transparent powder right after the color corrector — it also makes your make-up last much longer. Skip this step and the corrector will be the first thing to wipe off your face.
Mini FAQ
Which corrector color hides redness?
Green — it neutralizes redness and spider veins around the nose and cheeks.
When do I apply a color corrector?
Either after primer and before foundation, or after foundation and before your regular concealer or powder. Always set it with powder right away.
Why does my corrector disappear during the day?
It probably wasn't set. A light layer of transparent powder locks it in place and helps your whole make-up last longer.
